1950년대
소모방 사업에 특화

In May of 1956, the first ejected yarns were produced. They were a one-thread ply yarn and a two-thread ply yarn of a metric 18-yarn count. From that time, various CEOs looked forward to the successful production of 48-yarn count fabrics. It was expected that this would take at least a year and half to years to produce 48-yarn count fabrics after the production of 20, 24, 32, 36 and 40-yarn count fabrics.

종합 섬유 메이커

Cheil Industries, which focused on the production of raw fibers and woolen fabrics, began business operations in chemical fibers and clothing products from the end of the 1960s to the early 1970s. The reasons why Cheil Industries began two new businesses at nearly the same time were firstly, that reserves for new investment were obtained because the investment in the woolen fabrics business was almost complete and secondly, that the concept of business diversification became common due to the slow growth of the global woolen fabrics industry.

1990년대
기업 기반 재구축

In the early 1990s, the enterprise environment was unfavorable both internally and externally. Internally, the labor unrest that had begun in 1987 and a sharp increase in wages caused business management to decline. Externally, full-scale trade pressure from advanced countries began. While the economic conditions of Korea had been worsening due to sluggish domestic demand and poor exports, Chairman Geon-hee Lee detailed the innovation of Samsung for becoming a global leader in the 21st century and asked employees to change their thinking and attitude. He announced a 'New Management' for changing the management paradigm. The 'Frankfurt Announcement' was the 'whistle' of Chairman Lee, which forewarned of the IMF bailout in 1997.

after 46 years of manufacturing fibers, Cheil Industries changed its main line of business to the manufacture of chemicals in accordance with the regulations of listing securities. One reason for this is that sales of the Chemicals Division accounted for nearly 50% of the corporate sales. Also, it was internally determined that the chemicals business would be the main line of business and that the electronic materials business, which is a new growth dynamic, would be cultivated into a new business that would be responsible for the future of Cheil Industries.
